MRI Scan
High soft-tissue detail, no ionising radiation.
What is a MRI Scan?
The Siemens MAGNETOM ESSENZA is a 1.5 Tesla MRI system designed to produce detailed images of soft tissues, nerves, joints and internal structures. MRI does not use ionising radiation. Instead, it uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency signals to create high-contrast images that can help doctors evaluate complex conditions.

When is it needed?
How to prepare
- Disclose pacemakers, aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, metal implants and previous metal injuries
- Remove jewellery, watches, cards, phones and metallic accessories
- Some studies may need contrast, fasting or a specific coil — follow staff guidance
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing
Advanced & special studies
Specialised MRI protocols provide focused soft-tissue, nerve, vascular and organ imaging without ionising radiation. The study is tailored to the clinical indication and may be performed with or without contrast.
MRI Brain with Diffusion
Diffusion-weighted imaging supports early assessment of acute stroke and can also help evaluate infection, tumours and other neurological conditions.
MR Angiography and MR Venography
MRA and MRV provide focused assessment of arteries and veins in the brain, neck and selected body regions, with contrast-free or contrast-enhanced techniques depending on the protocol.
Dedicated Neuro MRI Protocols
Focused examinations may include epilepsy, pituitary, orbit, cranial nerve and internal auditory canal studies when clinically indicated.
MRI Whole Spine and Spinal Cord
Screening or focused imaging of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine helps assess disc disease, spinal-cord compression, infection, trauma and tumour-related changes.
MRCP
Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography creates detailed images of the bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreatic duct, helping evaluate stones, obstruction and duct-related disease.
MRI Liver and Multiphase Abdomen
Detailed soft-tissue and contrast-enhanced imaging can help characterise liver lesions, pancreatic abnormalities and other selected abdominal conditions.
MR Enterography
A specialised bowel study used to evaluate inflammatory bowel disease, bowel-wall changes, narrowing and complications involving the small intestine.
MR Urography
Focused imaging of the kidneys and urinary tract for obstruction, congenital abnormalities and selected renal or ureteric conditions.
MRI Pelvis and Gynaecology
Detailed evaluation of the uterus, ovaries and pelvic soft tissues for fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, pelvic masses and treatment planning.
MRI Prostate
A dedicated multiparametric prostate protocol may help evaluate suspicious lesions and guide further management where the required software and coil configuration are available.
MRI Fistulogram
Detailed mapping of perianal fistula tracks, internal openings, branches and abscesses to support surgical planning.
MR Spectroscopy
An additional tissue-analysis technique that may support evaluation of selected brain lesions where the spectroscopy software package is enabled.
Breast MRI
Contrast-enhanced assessment of breast tissue may be performed for selected indications where a dedicated breast coil and protocol are available.
Patient advantage
MRI provides excellent soft-tissue detail and can help the clinical team distinguish structures that may not be clearly seen on a routine X-ray. Because MRI uses a powerful magnet, every patient is screened for pacemakers, implants, metal fragments and other devices before entering the scan room.
Please note
Some specialised MRI examinations require contrast, fasting, specific coils or dedicated software. MRI safety screening is mandatory, and the final study protocol is confirmed by the radiologist.
